Putting Arts Back in the Classroom

The Pinnacle Fund partnerships with the McCallum Theatre Institute, the Palm Springs Art Museum and The Steinway Society of Riverside County and the Coachella Valley will bring the Visual and Performing Arts back into all the classrooms of the District’s students.

Putting Technology Back in the Classroom

The Pinnacle Fund’s goal to fund iPads for all District 9th Grade Earth Science students will place technology at their fingertips. Data from a recent three-year PSUSD laptop pilot program demonstrated improved student achievement, attendance and discipline for students ranging from the Gifted and Talented program to those performing below grade level. The move to cost effective iPads is now part of the District’s strategic plan.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about The Pinnacle Fund, The Foundation for Palm Springs Unified School District, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation where our focus is on Putting Arts and Technology Back in the Classroom.

During these tough economic times, schools are receiving catastrophically inadequate funding.  Programs critical to a good education are being cut.  In fact, art and technology related programs are typically the first to go.

We need your help to sustain educational programs that give our students the technological, analytic and creative skills needed to succeed in the 21^st century.

Simply put . . . our children need our help and together we can make a difference!

PALM SPRINGS – The Pinnacle Fund, The Foundation for Palm Springs Unified School District, presented $14,941 in checks to teachers whose grant proposals had been accepted at the Tuesday, January 25th meeting of the District school board. Nineteen applications in three separate categories were approved in the areas of the arts and technology, the designated focus of The Pinnacle Fund.

The largest grants of approximately $2,500 were presented to Desert Hot Springs High School for the Vantage MyAccess 9th Grade Writing Intervention Program, an online and interactive computer program that gives students immediate feedback on their writing; and to Nellie Coffman Middle School for a collaborative social studies standards-based portfolios program with technology integration.

Four grants of around $1,000 each were given to Cathedral City High School, Cielo Vista Elementary School, Desert Hot Springs High School, and Vista Del Monte Elementary School. These grants focus on technology integration, music programs, science along with language arts standards, and a brand new composition for the modern concert band. Thirteen grants of approximately $500 each were distributed to Cahuilla Elementary School, Cathedral City High School, Edward Wenzlaff Elementary School (2), Julius Corsini Elementary School, Landau Elementary School, Palm Springs High School (2), Raymond Cree Elementary School (4), and Rio Vista Elementary School. These grants include science and social studies projects, technology for special education classes, teaching math concepts, expansion of a 21st Century Learning Demonstration Project involving 3-4-5 grade GATE students, and music and fine arts projects.

In addition to these current grants, The Pinnacle Fund’s Grant Awards Program has distributed during the last two years a total of $50,000 in annual teacher grants to support fine arts and technology in District programs to keep students engaged in school and to give them the necessary skills for a productive future in the 21st century. Since 2009, $4,200 was also given in technology awards to District schools, and $2,500 was presented as part of The Pinnacle Fund’s “Get on the Bus” Initiative to transport students to area art events. The Pinnacle Fund has also acted as a partner in specific foundation grants targeted for individual schools totaling $75,000 to date.
