2009/2010 The Pinnacle Fund Distributes Almost $24,000 to Technology, Arts Projects
PALM SPRINGS – The Pinnacle Fund, The Foundation for Palm Springs Unified School District, presented almost $24,000 in checks to teachers whose grant proposals had been accepted at the Tuesday, March 9th meeting of the District school board. Twenty-four applications in three separate categories were approved in the areas of the arts and technology, the designated focus of The Pinnacle Fund.
The largest grants of $2500 were given to:
Desert Hot Springs Alternative Center for a collaborative venture with The Wildlands Conservancy Mission Creek Preserve, the CREEC Environmental Youth Experience, and the Mission Creek Water District which focuses on the impact of pollution on groundwater and shares the results of student field studies with the community via film and power point presentations.
Desert Hot Springs High School and the PSUSD art coordinator in cooperation with the City of Desert Hot Springs and the non-profit, Social Mosaics, for the study, development and creation of a tile mosaic eagle for the high school campus.
Cielo Vista Elementary School for the purchase of a computer and display equipment for the benefit of all its kindergarten teachers
Eleven grants of $1,000 were distributed to Agua Caliente, Cahuilla, Cielo Vista (2), Landau, Sunny Sands and Two Bunch Palms Elementary Schools, Nellie Coffman and Raymond Cree Middle Schools, Cathedral City and Palm Springs High Schools. These grants permitted teacher development, music programs, art and technology equipment as well as reductions in student user fees.
Ten $500 grants were made to Katherine Finchy Elementary School, Raymond Cree Middle School (2), Cathedral City (4) and Palm Springs (3) High Schools. These grants focused more on the purchase of equipment, supplies, music and honoraria for guest professionals to share their expertise in specific areas with the intent to focus students on their job potential.
Last year The Pinnacle Fund distributed more than $26,000 in teacher grants in its annual program to support fine arts and technology in District programs to keep students engaged in school and to give them the necessary skills for a productive future in the 21st century.
